Vanessa Plan 1
-
The point of view driving the story is that she wants to be known for what she is doing after her move from the DRC as opposed to what the DRC was like in her past. The central desire for Vanessa’s story has high aspirations for her future and hopes to succeed.
-
The dramatic question that is organizing our narrative is that Vanessa is more than just a refugee and she wants to prove that she can succeed in the future and be able to move back to her home country and help the people that need the help they are not able to get.
-
The five central moments or themes that must be included in this story are :
-
Her move from her home country
-
Transition from Thailand to the United States
-
Starting a new life as an adult - working and school and her difficulties with transition
-
Her involvements on campus - diversity/female health
-
Her future as a doctor and going to med school
-
“Best lessons” learned and certain quotes about life in America
-
-
These must be included because the story that Vanessa wants to tell is about her future life in America - working as a doctor and helping the children and mothers that are in need internationally.
-
Listed above is the order that we plan on using - with the difficulties of her transition as the arc. We will open the story by introducing Vanessa and her move to America, transition into her life as an adult in America and her daily life in college and end the story discussing her hopes and dreams for the future becoming a doctor and helping children and mothers. The context we will use involving the Congo is difficult because she does not mention her past - but we will mention a specific doctor who influenced her decision about the track of medical school in which she hopes to pursue.
