The purpose of this project was to tell Vanessa's story to an audience through a multimodal platform of video, still pictures, and text. Beginning by constructing a list of interview questions with my group mates, the process seemed as though it was going to be extremely difficult to tell someone else's story with my own words and video. After meeting Vanessa and conducting a 30-minute interview - I then realized it wasn't going to be as difficult as I thought because of how exciting and heartwarming her story was. Vanessa was a bit different than the rest of the refugee's of whom my classmates interviewed. Instead of telling her story about her past in the Democratic Republic of Congo, she wanted to speak to us about her future in the United States and furthering her studies and her career as a doctor. Because we did not have to research much about her country and the issues happening the Congo, we instead decided to spend our time learning what influenced Vanessa into becoming so interested in medicine. I believe that our targeted audience would be those interested in learning about The Quest for Refuge, as well as those who are part of The Quest for Refuge, in which case we needed to reach all levels of information involving what exactly is happening, as well as having all the facts and information correct. In regards to our 'evidence' and 'style' in our writing, it was important that we did not stray from Vanessa's immediate story and that we did not speak any further than what Vanessa told us. Because of her desire to only speak of her future and her influences in pursuing medicine, our evidence was to correctly tell her encounters with Dr. Denis (Congolese OB-GYN) of whom influenced her passion for medicine.
